How to Get Your Med Spa to Appear in ChatGPT and AI Overviews
Updated July 2026. This is a genuinely open opportunity: as of this writing, no independent agency content addresses AI chatbot visibility for med spas specifically.
Why this matters now
A growing share of patients researching aesthetic treatments start in ChatGPT or a Google AI Overview instead of a traditional search results page. When someone asks "what should I know before getting filler" or "best med spa for laser hair removal near [city]", the answer engine picks sources it judges authoritative, specific and well-structured. Almost no med spa website is written for that job today, which means the clinics that adapt first have a real, if temporary, advantage.
How AI answer engines choose what to cite
Based on observed patterns across GEO research, AI engines favor content that: answers a specific question directly near the top of the page, includes concrete numbers and sources rather than vague claims, is organized with clear headings that mirror how people actually ask questions, and comes from a domain with topical consistency (a site that only talks about aesthetics reads as more authoritative on aesthetics than a general lifestyle blog that happens to mention Botox once).
What to change on your site
- Rewrite treatment pages to open with a direct answer to the most common question about that treatment, before any brand copy
- Add FAQ sections with schema markup (FAQPage) on every treatment and guide page
- Use specific numbers: recovery time, typical session count, price ranges, before-photo timelines. Vague claims get skipped, specifics get cited
- Publish a clear "About" and provider credentials page. AI engines weigh expertise and provenance heavily for health-adjacent content
- Keep a consistent, crawlable content structure. Avoid locking treatment information behind JavaScript-only interactions or PDFs
- Do not overstate results. AI engines are trained on enough health content to flag exaggerated claims, and it hurts trust signals over time
Compliance still applies
Being cited by an AI engine does not exempt you from advertising rules. Brand-name drug claims, guaranteed outcomes and unverified before/after photos carry the same FTC and state-level risk regardless of the channel. See our before/after photo rules guide before publishing new treatment content.
How to measure it
There is no universal analytics dashboard for AI citations yet. Practical proxies: periodically ask ChatGPT and Perplexity your target questions and note whether your clinic appears, track referral traffic from chat.openai.com and perplexity.ai in your analytics, and monitor whether your Google AI Overview appearances increase for your target treatment + city queries.
